Mexican Dogs are a UK-based blues-rock power trio from Liverpool, formed in 2021 and rapidly establishing themselves as one of the city’s most compelling live prospects. Blending gritty blues foundations with the energy and weight of modern alternative rock, the band’s sound has drawn comparisons to acts such as The Black Keys and Royal Blood, while retaining a distinctly Northern character and identity.
The band features Gaz Wilcox (vocals/guitar), Carl Rooney (drums), and Sonny Winder-Rodgers (bass/vocals). Together they create a powerful, high-impact sound that far exceeds expectations of a three-piece, driven by heavy grooves, fuzz-laden riffs, and memorable, hook-driven vocal melodies.
Mexican Dogs first began gaining attention with the release of their self-titled debut EP, followed by standout singles including “Run, Run, Run,” which helped further cement their reputation as a rising act within the UK rock scene.
Their recordings have received radio support and airplay from BBC Radio 6 Music and Planet Rock, signalling early industry recognition and placing the band firmly on the radar of contemporary rock audiences.
Renowned for their relentless and electrifying live performances, Mexican Dogs have steadily built a loyal following across the UK.
Their reputation on stage has seen them share line-ups and stages with an impressive range of established artists, including Cast, Jamie Webster, Reef, Inspiral Carpets, The Undertones, Ash, Senser, Lightning Seeds, Stereo MC's, Utah Saints, Alabama 3, Embrace and Goldie Lookin Chain, further underlining their growing presence on the live circuit.
The band also carry strong connections within the wider music scene, with bassist Sonny Winder-Rodgers’ father, Mick Winder, serving as long-time guitar technician to Noel Gallagher — a link that places the band firmly within the lineage of British rock heritage.
With their sweat-drenched performances capturing the raw spirit of classic blues-rock while delivering a sound that feels modern, urgent and powerful, Mexican Dogs continue to build significant momentum.
With new material on the horizon and their reputation as a formidable live act strengthening with every show, the band are carving out a distinctive and increasingly prominent place within the UK rock landscape.
